We spent a relaxing long weekend at The Armoury with our 6 and 7 year olds. If you're looking for a peaceful place to hang out, with beautiful scenery everywhere you look, this is the place!
The Armoury has been renovated to a very high standard, it's extremely well appointed (I had fridge envy!), modern and cosy. A real home from home.
My kids were amazed at going DOWNSTAIRS to bed, and loved the gigantic windows, although I think their favourite thing was the deep window cubbies. The views from that gigantic window are stunning....accross to a beautiful church, with Caledonian pines trees, mountains and a glimpse of the loch. On our last night was saw a large stag in the grounds of the church. - The Dingwalls
There was plenty to keep us occupied, even in the rain. My kids are lazy whingers so we didn't do the viaduct walk as it was too far in the rain (we'll save that for next time) but we walked up to the viewpoint at the visitor centre and went up the monument. A short walk in the other direction is the train station museum and dining car. The steam train is booked up months in advance but it stops at Glenfinnan for 10 or 15 minutes so time your visit well and you'll be able to get up close and personal with it. Lunch in the dining car was fun too.
There's a large smart TV so we took some movies on a tablet for the kids, which allowed us to relax and enjoy the surroundings for a couple of hours. There are some board games in a sideboard drawer which was handy too. The upstairs was extremely warm and cosy even on the very rainy day we had.
We had a dry day too and headed to the beautiful beaches at Arisaig less than half an hour away.
Can't wait to go back......I think a long weekend in the depths of winter sans children would be absolute heaven!
We spent many hours relaxing and enjoying beautiful views from the house and garden - Robert & Jean Murray
What a great location to base your holiday, we had a lovely time, The house has been renovated to a very high standard and is beautifully furnished and decorated to make you feel right at home as soon as you enter.
If you enjoy walking or cycling then there are plenty of areas to explore with Munros just outside the door, transport is good with plenty of off road parking a bus service and the railway only a short walk from this great house. We spent many hours relaxing and enjoying beautiful views from the house and the garden. There are lots to do and see in the village from walks and Scottish history to the viaduct in the Harry Potter films.
Highly recommended and hope to return soon.
